FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

No. We accept patients without a referral from their primary care physician.

Each new patient is seen for an hour and has ample time to convey their issues to a caring, professional provider. We do not overbook our medical professionals. There is minimal wait time and patients do not feel rushed. We kindly request you to arrive 15 minutes early for complete paper work.

We will meet and discuss what your concerns are, your medical and personal history, preferences for treatment and so forth. That will also be an opportunity to see if we are a good fit to work together, and make a plan of action for your treatment.

We are unable to accept patients with severe and persistent mental illness, i.e. severe enough to qualify for disability. This is due to my treatment approach, work environment, and how my practice is set up as a solo-provider.

Your safety and wellness is my priority. Patients in treatment with my practice are voluntary, adherent to treatment plans, and stable enough to receive care in an outpatient private practice setting. If your symptoms are severe or life-threatening, this is not a clinically therapeutic fit for an outpatient private practice.

  • We do not perform Court-ordered/Forensic Evaluations

  • We do not perform Child Custody Evaluations

  • We do not perform Fitness for Duty Evaluations

  • We do not perform Disability Evaluations

  • We do not provide FMLA assessments or endorsements on a first visit or for new patients.

  • We do not treat Adult ADHD

Chemical dependency evaluations or treatment. If you are actively using psychotrophic substances, including illicit drugs or alcohol (more than 2-3 drinks daily) then you will likely require the services of a provider with more expertise in treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.

We follow standard of care procedures and will recommend transferring care to an appropriate treatment setting if your condition is unstable, medically complex, or could benefit from a specialist setting.  We are happy to provide referrals, which may be more suitable for your care such as larger team-based behavioral health clinics with access to additional resources, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, chemical dependency treatment, or inpatient stabilization.

What is the Cancellation/No Show Policy?

Wellness Point Psychiatry Consultants requires at least a 24 hours advance notice for reschedules or cancellations.  Cancellations after 24 business hours prior to the appointment but before the appointment time will result in a late cancel fee.  Patients who do not call prior to missing their appointment will be charged a no-call no-show fee. We understand that some situation may arise, however 3 no shows will result in termination of treatment with Wellness Point Psychiatry Consultants, PLLC.

Wellness Point Psychiatry Consultants does NOT double book appointments to insure patients are seen in a timely fashion. When appointments are not canceled 24 hours in advance, there is not enough time to schedule another patient during that appointment time.

When you decide to seek help for a mental health issue, we understand you want to be seen as soon as possible. We can see 90% of all patients in a week or two. Same day appointments may be available (schedule permitting). Saturdays are open by appointments only.

Do I have to bring my children to the appointment?

All Children and Adolescents must attend appointments with the legal guardian/Parent.

Please do not bring children and/or infants to your appointment (unless they are part of the treatment).  We are aware that childcare issues arise, but please do your best to limit bringing your children to our office.

We usually request that clients are child-free for their appointments. This will help us give you best care that you deserve without interruptions.

How do you diagnose patients?

As a board certified mental health nurse practitioners, we can order or perform a full range of medical laboratory and psychological tests. I understand the complex relationship between emotional and other medical illnesses and the relationships with genetics and family history, to evaluate medical and psychological data, to make a diagnosis, and to work with you and your family to develop a treatment plan.

Specific diagnoses are based on criteria established in APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(DSM-5), which contains descriptions, symptoms and other criteria for diagnosing mental disorders.

Do I have to be prescribed for medications?

Here at Wellness Point we do not take the ability to prescribe lightly.

If you and we decide to try a medication, you will hear the reasoning for the suggestion, the risks, benefits, side effects, and alternatives before you make up your mind.

Why are prescriptions not considered an emergency?

All prescriptions refill request requires 48 hour notice. It is the patient’s responsibility to monitor the prescription prior to depletion and call the clinic to request a prescription.

Do you draw labs at your clinic?

We do not have a lab onsite.  However, labs are usually necessary on an ongoing basis especially for certain medications (such as lithium or tegretol valproic acid).  If this is needed, we will give you a lab slip that you can take to the lab of your choice (Quest, LabCorp, etc.) and the results will be faxed back to us.  Most of the time we will discuss your lab results at your next visit unless an unexpected result needs immediate attention.

Can Wellness Point Psychiatry send me a bill me after services?

All payments and/or co-pays are due at the time of service.

You will be ultimately responsible for any payments not paid by your insurance carrier.  If payment for services is not received after 45 days, we will seek full payment from you and a statement for services rendered will be mailed to your home.  All balances will need to be paid before making a new appointment.

Is Wellness Point Psychiatry a Christian practice?

We want people of faith to know that this is a safe place for them to incorporate their spiritual beliefs in their work with us.
